Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is most commonly used to treat surface veins and has been used with safety and success since the 1930’s. The treatment is a non-surgical procedure, performed at our clinic with no anaesthesia required. Sclerotherapy can be used to treat various sizes of veins, using a very small, fine needle.

During the treatment, a small amount of ‘sclerosing solution’ is injected directly into the unwanted leg veins. The vein’s lining then becomes irritated and subsequently collapses, sticking together the walls of the vein. Once redundant, the vein becomes gradually reabsorbed by the body, fading from view over a period of weeks.

A very fine needle is used for treatment, minimising discomfort and allowing for multiple vein treatments and when performed correctly, by expert hands, the success rate of treatment is close to 90%.

Following Sclerotherapy treatment, there is very little to no recovery period needed. Patients may return to work directly from the clinic and after 30 min of walking, carry on with normal activities immediately.
